A Bump In The Hallway
S1E1 - Not Until Tuesday ...
Location: Deck 08 - Marine Quarters Section
Timeline: Mission Day 1 at 0900
The Hum of the Transporter faded from her ears as Sergeant Alice Murphy fully materializes on the Transporter Pad. Snapping to a salute she addresses the Transporter Operator, "Permission to come aboard?" she says.
"Ugh ... Ok" replies a slightly befuddled Transporter Operator.
"Ugh." huffs Sergeant Murphy under her breath as she picks up her rucksack and swings it up over her shoulder.
Stepping down off the Transporter Pad she exits the Transporter room and takes a look down both directions of the hallway. "Now where are my quarters?" she asks in a soft voice, mostly to herself.
"Deck 8, Marine Section, Unit 0825." replies a soft female computer voice over her head.
"What? Who? Oh, Thank You, Computer." replies Sergeant Murphy.
"You are welcome, Sergeant Murphy." replies the soft computer voice as a red line appears on the wall in front of Sergeant Murphy and starts tracing down the hallway to the right.
Sergeant Murphy rolled her eyes as she turned and followed the red tracer line down the hallway. As she navigated the hallways of this ship, following the line, she started to let her mind wander on how she got this assignment and why there was not more discipline on this ship. Turning a corner too closely she runs into a large man in a strange black uniform with white shoulder colors. The impact was enough that it knocked her backward throwing her off balance and ending up on her butt on the floor of the hallway.
"Why don't you watch where you are walking," she says angrily looking up at the man she assumed to be a member of the Diplomatic Corps. Then as she looks over the man, she noticed the red stripe across the front of his uniform and the single star in a frame on his collar. "Oh, crap." she signs softly as she realizes this is not a Diplomat. The stern look on the man's face makes her want to sink into the floor and disappear.
"I'm sorry, Private, were you saying something," says General Wilson as he reaches out his hand to offer it to the fallen Sergeant.
"I'm sorry, Sir. I was caught off guard and did not think before speaking," replies Sergeant Murphy as she reaches up to take his hand and accept his help to her feet. She feels her hair fall around her face as her ponytail has come undone during her brief fall.
General Wilson looks her up and down then his face softens as he smiles slightly and his eyes glint with humor. "It's OK Sergeant, Just arrived aboard?" he asks.
"Yes, Sir. I'm sorry sir, I'm not familiar with that uniform configuration. I meant no disrespect sir." stammers Sergeant Murphy as she feels her color rising.
"Ah, yes. This is the new Uniform for the Odyssey Class. The Replicator will have a full set assigned to you, Sergeant." says General Wilson as he smooths out the front of his uniform jacket.
"Thank you Sir," says Sergeant Murphy as she pulls her hair back into the ponytail again.
"I think the ship is waiting to finish showing you to your quarters," says General Wilson as he indicated the flashing line on the wall that is starting to flash in a faster pattern.
"Yes, Sir. I really am sorry Sir," says Sergeant Murphy.
"It's OK. You are dismissed, Private," replies General Wilson as he steps by Sergeant Murphy and continues to walk down the hallway.
Sergeant Murphy picks up her rucksack again and takes three steps down the hallway before stopping and looking confused as she softly says, "Private?"
